This week I will be visiting Malow Junior High School in Shelby Township, Michigan. The Malow Junior High Band will be presenting their consortium premiere of "Scrapin" in their Spring Concert on May 31. Along with attending their concert, I will be serving as clinician in their rehearsals leading up to the concert. The Malow Junior High School Band, led by band director Jacob Steinberger, is one of 25 schools a part of the collaborative consortium for "Scrapin" and other works contributed by other composers.
"Stutter Step" will be performed twice at the 2022 Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference hosted at the University of Kentucky in Lexington from May 26-28. Jason Casanova, who premiered the work with a virtual performance at the 2020 International Euphonium Tuba Festival, will be giving a live performance of the work in his artist recital on day 1. Casanova currently serves as Artist-in-Residence at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA as well as instructor of euphonium, trombone, and tuba at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.
On day 2 of the conference, "Stutter Step" will receive a second performance by Mark Jenkins. Jenkins currently sits as the principal euphonium for "The President's Own" United States Marine Band and professor of euphonium at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. "Listen..." will feature as a bonus track on the upcoming solo album by tuba artist Dr. Jesse Orth. Dr. Orth announced today the release of his new solo album entitled, "Un Dia". Featuring works by composers such as Jennifer Rose, James Naigus, Jose Flores, and others. The closing bonus track is "Listen..." by Benjamin Horne. The track includes Staff Sergeant Toby Furr of the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" on euphonium. Dr. Jesse Orth is currently Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Texas A&M University - Kingsville. More details on how to purchase or stream the album will be coming soon.
This week Ben will be visiting the Wildwood Middle/High School in Wildwood, Florida. The Wildwood band will be giving their consortium premiere of "Scrapin" at their end of the year concert on Thursday May 19. During the process of composing this work for the collaborative consortium of 25 schools, Wildwood and band director Anthony Morris was the primary school that Ben worked with while creating the work. "Scrapin" is further dedicated to the Wildwood band making this premiere a special one for the school and community.
