The work characterizes the flute and trumpet as dueling insect soloists in a race to the end. The work was selected for the International Trumpet Guild Conference New Works Call for Scores and was given a premiere at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in June 2023. |
Furaha (2023)
Instrumentation: Youth Orchestra Estimated Time: 4:00 Furaha is a work for youth orchestra. The work was commissioned by the Decatur (IL) Youth Symphony Orchestra. The title and theme of the work is derived from the Swahili language meaning "joy" or "happiness". The work was premiered by the Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra and conducted by the composer in April 2023. |
Mettle Monologues (2023)
Instrumentation: Solo Euphonium Estimated Time: 7:00 *Currently under consortium Mettle Monologues is a work for solo euphonium. This work was commissioned by a consortium led by Jessica Payne. The work is composed in two movements: "...end of my rope..." and "When I woke up...". Mettle Monologues is inspired by Payne's personal battles with medical issues inhibiting their ability to play. The work portrays her pain, struggle, and eventual recovery. Mettle Monologues received its premiere in March 2023. |

The work is motivated by the idea of memory loss from the perspective of a dementia patient. Instrumentation: Young Wind Band Estimated Time: 3:00 Price: $75.00 Scrapin' is a work for wind band. This original work for band is influenced by hip hop music and captures the scenario of one having an argument with someone else. This scenario is played out early in the work with an aleatoric section. This section works as a device to introduce a rather advanced concept to younger players in a more simplistic way while also allowing opportunity for performer creativity. This work was commissioned by consortium and for the Wildwood Middle/High School Band in Wildwood, FL. The work was premiered by the Johns Hill Magnet School Band in Decatur, IL and conducted by the composer in April 2022. This work is published by Murphy Music Press. Deep River (2021)
Instrumentation: Advanced Wind Band Estimated Time: 7:00 Price: $120.00 Deep River is a work for wind band. The work sets the traditional spiritual of the same name for advanced band. This version features several instruments with solos, including the piano. The work also highlights the saxophone section turning the spiritual into a soulful and virtuosic display of jubilance. This work was premiered by the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble and conducted by Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger in November 2021. Deep River has since seen several performances by other major collegiate ensembles, and at events such as the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic as well as state music education conferences.
