Mettle Monologues is a new work for solo euphonium. The work is composed in two movements, and is inspired by the testimony of Jessica Payne who commissioned the work. Payne's story describes medical issues that effected her ability to play euphonium. This work is a portrait of her pain, struggle, and recovery after eventual surgery.
The work will premiere tonight on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas performed by Jessica Payne at 7:30pm CDT. The consortium premiere tour for "I Remember You" ends tonight in New York City. Decoda will perform the work tonight at Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan at 7:30pm EDT. This performance will be the final of initial consortium that was a result being named the winner of the first ever Cross-Country Chamber Consortium. The consortium included other previous performances by the SOLI Chamber Ensemble (San Antonio, TX), Musiqa (Houston, TX), Atlanta Chamber Players (Atlanta, GA), and Picosa (Chicago, IL).
