Scrapin' a new work for young band had its world premiere today! The work was premiered by the Johns Hill Magnet School Band in Decatur, IL during a school event featuring the composer as a guest. Ben was not only present for the premiere of the work, he was the guest conductor. The program also including a solo performance of Stutter Step for solo euphonium by Ben as well as a performance of Ole Man River arranged by Johns Hill Magnet School band director Tom Miller for solo euphonium and young band. This premiere marks Ben's first original composition for band. Scrapin' was funded by consortium as part of a package of contributing works by other composers including Katherine Bergman, Brandon Dicks, Jennifer Rose, Onsby Rose, and the late Zach Friedland. As such, future performances will be given in the coming months by other consortium member schools.
