"Deep River" was selected as one of the winning works for the Louisiana State University Band Department's Inclusive Repertoire Initiative Contest. The work will be performed by the LSU Wind Ensemble tonight at 7:30 CST.
This week I will be returning to my alma mater, the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, for residency. Throughout the week, I will be working with the composition studio and delivering a masterclass. The culmination of the visit will include a performance of "Deep River" by the Schwob Wind Ensemble on Thursday April 20. The residency will be in conjunction with composer Viet Cuong. Can't wait to return home. Furaha is a new work for youth orchestra! The work was commissioned by the Decatur (IL) Youth Symphony Orchestra and their director, Neal Smith. The work will premiere this afternoon at 2pm CST on the campus of Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and will be conducted by the composer. The title and theme of the work derives from the Swahili language meaning "joy" or happiness".
Mettle Monologues is a new work for solo euphonium. The work is composed in two movements, and is inspired by the testimony of Jessica Payne who commissioned the work. Payne's story describes medical issues that effected her ability to play euphonium. This work is a portrait of her pain, struggle, and recovery after eventual surgery.
The work will premiere tonight on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas performed by Jessica Payne at 7:30pm CDT. The consortium premiere tour for "I Remember You" ends tonight in New York City. Decoda will perform the work tonight at Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan at 7:30pm EDT. This performance will be the final of initial consortium that was a result being named the winner of the first ever Cross-Country Chamber Consortium. The consortium included other previous performances by the SOLI Chamber Ensemble (San Antonio, TX), Musiqa (Houston, TX), Atlanta Chamber Players (Atlanta, GA), and Picosa (Chicago, IL).
